Easy
Overview
Colorado resolved its import issues in 2025 with the passage of HB25-1281, which explicitly legalized registration of 25+ year old imported vehicles. The state is now straightforward for European imports.
Key Requirements
- No annual safety inspection — Colorado does not require periodic vehicle inspections.
- Emissions — required only in the Denver metro area (Front Range) for 1982+ vehicles. Pre-1982 exempt statewide.
- Titling — standard process with federal import documentation. VIN verification required.
Notes for European Imports
With no safety inspection, European-spec lighting and speedometers are not an issue for registration (though DOT lights are recommended for safety). Pre-1982 vehicles skip emissions entirely.
Recommendation
Excellent state for imports — clear legislation, no inspections, and limited emissions requirements.
