These are European-market cars and versions that were never sold new in the United States: the diesel Land Rovers and Mercedes, the wagons and manual gearboxes America was refused, the hot hatches that stayed in Europe, and European versions of Japanese models. 271 models and versions in all: 237 are already old enough to import under the 25-year rule, and 34 more become legal between November 2026 and 2029.
Last updated: November 4, 2026.
How to read this list
- Legal date: a car can enter the US once it is 25 years old, counted from its month of manufacture (shown on the build plate, not the first registration). From then on it is exempt from FMVSS safety and EPA emissions standards. “Legal now for early builds” means production ran past 2001: the later years become legal month by month. Check a specific car with our 25-year rule checker.
- Duty: passenger cars built in the EU pay 10%, built in the UK 12.5%. Pickups and vans (HTS 8704) pay 25% if EU-built and 35% if UK-built. European versions built in Japan or Mexico pay 12.5%, a Thailand-built pickup 37.5%, and a US-built car coming back nothing if it was not modified abroad. When the rate depends on the plant or the body, we confirm it before quoting. Current rates and sources: US car import rules tracker.
- Price: every quote is a landed price at the US port, all-in (car, shipping, duty, customs clearance). It excludes inland transport from the port, state sales tax, title and registration fees.
- California: registration not guaranteed for vehicles built after 1967, and diesels cannot be registered there. Other states: see our state-by-state registration guide.

How we bring one in
Tell us the model, year range and budget. We search Europe, have the car inspected in the country where it is, send you the report and photos, and quote the landed price at a US port before you pay a deposit. Salvage Motors LLC sells you the car with a bill of sale and the stamped customs file, and your state issues the title. The steps are on how it works; cars already available are in our inventory.
