Easy
Overview
Indiana is simple for imported vehicles. No safety inspection and very limited emissions testing.
Key Requirements
- No safety inspection — none required.
- Emissions — only in Lake and Porter counties (northwest Indiana, near Chicago) for 1976+ vehicles. Pre-1975 exempt statewide.
- Titling — standard process at the BMV with federal import documentation.
Notes for European Imports
Outside the two northwestern counties, there are no testing requirements whatsoever. Even in those counties, pre-1975 imports are exempt.
Recommendation
Very easy state. No modifications required.
