Alpine A610: 250 hp, rear-engined, and the end of the line

Alpine A610 for sale

1 car in stock right now, inspected in the European country where it is located, priced landed at a US port with the import paperwork done.

The Alpine A610 (1991–1995) is the last car Alpine built at Dieppe before the name went quiet for twenty years: a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 of 250 hp hung behind the rear axle, a steel backbone chassis, pop-up headlights and a fibreglass body. About 818 were built. Renault had left the United States in 1987 and the A610 was never sold there.

Why Americans want it

A rear-engined turbo coupé that is not a 911, built in smaller numbers than almost anything comparable, and still cheap by the standards of what it will run alongside. It is also the end of a lineage that began with the A110, which matters to the people who buy these.

Our take

Inspect the backbone and buy the history. The engine is a known quantity with available parts; the chassis and the bodywork are where an A610 becomes a project.

FAQ

Was the Alpine A610 sold in the United States?
No. Renault withdrew from the US market in 1987, four years before the A610 was launched.

How many were built?
About 818 between 1991 and 1995, making it one of the rarest European coupés of its decade.

Does the body rust?
The fibreglass body does not. The steel backbone chassis underneath does, and that is what to inspect.
